Dear Guests,

I must confess that I am not a man of many words. As an ex-dancer I would still find it easier to express my thoughts and feelings through dance rather than in words. But now, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Dance Forum, I will nevertheless try to express my joy in words instead of motion.

It seems incredible that this is the tenth time we have organised a festival in honour of the International Day of Dance. Looking back on the past years, I am happy to say that a large number of Hungarian productions have been created for this festival. We are also proud of the fact that we have managed to invite foreign dance companies to the Dance Forum e.g. the legendary Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Shen Wei Dance Arts or the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, who first performed in Hungary on the occasion of the festival.

Continuing this tradition, the word famous Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo (USA) has come to Hungary for the first time to take part in the festival.

There are a number of Hungarian premieres in the festival this year as well. The Compagnie Yvette Bozsik will introduce the children’s performance Peter and the Wolf and the Hungarian Art of Movement Company has prepared a new performance entitled Carrot, Radish, Hazelnut for the youngest audience.

The Duna Art Ensemble is also preparing for a premiere entitled Barocco Rustico – The Four Seasons, the Éva Duda Company will appear with their new production Faun at the Jubilee Dance Forum.

The Hungarian Ballet Theatre and the South Bohemian Ballet are going to introduce their international programme entitled BOOM! and the performance entitled Unisono by the Szeged Contemporary Dance Company will be performed in Budapest for the first time during the festival.

An evening of the works of Zoltán Fodor has also been included in the programme, during which his own company, Inversedance, and the students of the Hungarian Dance Academy are going to perform.

Zoltán Grecsó has also prepared for the festival with a new production entitled Conversation Full of Salt / The Budgie and the Cockatiel. There is a photo exhibition connected to the jubilee dance forum, which we jointly organised with the dance archive of the National Theatre Historical Museum and Institute in memory of Dezső Papp.

In common with previous years, the professional awards of the Association of Hungarian Dancers are also going to be presented during the gala on the International Day of Dance: “the Best Male and Female Dancers of the Season", “the Best Creator of the Season", “the Best Graduating Student of the Season", and also “the Life Achievement Award" and “the Award for the Art of Dance".

The greatest joy for me is to be able to share the experience of both the performers on stage and those sitting in the audience enjoying themselves. I hope that our festivals over the past ten years have, and the one this year is also going to bring some joy to the audience.
