Budapest Spring Festival, Until 5 April
"The Budapest Spring Festival is Hungary's most prestigious cultural festival. For a month from the middle of March it presents world stars, famous artists, and talented young performers.

The Budapest Spring Festival was first held in 1980. The events, mainly music-related but also representing other arts too, take place at well-known Budapest venues including the Hungarian State Opera, the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy, the National Gallery, the Palace of Arts, and the Matthias Church.

The programme is colourful and rich. Those interested can usually choose from musical events, chamber evenings, opera and operetta performances, theatrical evenings, jazz and crossover concerts, folk music, and folk dance and dance shows as well as exhibitions.

In 2005 the Budapest Spring Festival won the European Cultural Award. In 2006, on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of Béla Bartók's birth, and the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, the lifeworks of these two world famous composers played an important role. The year 2006 was also unique, as it iwas the first time that the Fringe Festival was held here; already well known in Avignon and Edinburgh, the Fringe is a stage for talented young performers."
