Hungarian Savings Co-ops Warned To Monitor Staff
"The financial supervisory Pszáf is advising savings co-operatives to send balance information letters to clients from a central source, rather than from branches, after discovering evidence of abuse by savings co-operatives employees.

The instances of abuse committed by internal staff follow similar patterns, the Pszáf announced, as they were committed at small branches or branches operated by one person only.

The discovery of the malpractice was partly due to unexpected factors, such as a change in client behaviour or the sickness of a clerk.

It is a suspicious sign if an employee never wants to go on holiday and refuses to be replaced, the Pszáf said.

The Pszáf also called for stronger internal controls."
