'Send Winter Away Run' Mobilised Hungarian And Expat Runners For Charity
On February 26 Team Heart - Seedling Trust’s initiative for charity running model in Hungary - had the thrill of organizing an unprecedented event in Hungary, maybe even the world! Our 'Send Winter Away Run' mobilized more than 326 Hungarian and 24 expatriate runners and groups across Hungary and from as far away as Australia to run to raise funds for disabled children.

The run was extremely unusual in how it was organized -- it had no set location or start or finish time, as long as everybody completed their run by midnight.

All runners submitted their kilometer log and a photo, whether from cross-country trails or treadmills, to a webpage set up with technical help from the running organization Fútótárs.com and we tabulated the results.

We promoted the run exclusively through our Facebook page and local media -- keeping our administrative and organizational costs at zero.

Thanks to Market Építő Zrt. which awarded the efforts of our runners with an extraordinarily generous sponsorship of 5 million forints (22 thousand dollars), we raised a significant amount of money for the Seedlings!

Funds will go towards excursions and sports events for the kids -- keep checking our webpage, eng.seedlingtrust.org and seedlingtrust.org for photos and reports of how we allocated the funds to give the kids life-changing experiences.

We've created a new tradition -- together. We'd like to express our profound gratitude to our generous sponsor and to everyone who participated!

About Seedling Trust and Team Heart:

Seedling Trust is an independent non-profit founded in 2009 with the goal of improving lives for severely disabled children in state care in Budapest.

The organization also seeks -- through its Team Heart initiative -- to popularize and establish the charity running model as a fundraising mechanism in Hungary.

By 2011 the organization had raised more than 50,000 Euros, which went directly to helping the children, including purchasing a specially-equipped bus that allows them to take special excursions and participate in sports and exercise programs.

The Trust has participated in several marathons, including the ING New York Marathon and the London Marathon, to raise funds for the organization's work.

We hope to continue to build the community of runners, walkers, bikers, swimmers who also care and give a hand to support a good cause.

Thanks for being there for us.
