Top 10 Kids’ Birthday Parties In Budapest, Part II
"As promised, here are two more ideas for kids’ birthday party venues. Did I mention I once (that’s right, once) made the mistake of having one at home? If you’ve done that and not gone bonkers, then hats off to you. Our problem was, it was winter, and ALL the kids came who were invited (15 plus several siblings). Crowd behavior took over - I couldn’t get them to play the games I had planned.

They ran around and trashed the house and since their parents were there (acting oblivious) I couldn’t discipline them.

So if you know what I mean, here are some alternatives:

3. Budai Műjégpálya Skating Rink: Call me crazy, but I love skating any time of year. This rink, at Széna tér right across from Mammut, is open through the end of April. You can rent out the whole rink for a fixed price and even hire a skating teacher to run races and silly games on the ice. Parents can skate too, and they pay for rental, so that keeps costs down.

When my daughter’s classmate had her party there (two years in a row now, and now the whole class looks forward to it), we skated for an hour and then went upstairs to the Városfal Étterem restaurant for cake and drinks. A good time was had by all, so parents of winter-birthday kids, take heart! I had my daughter’s party at an outdoor rink once, but you couldn’t rent the whole rink and the party space wasn’t nice, so the Budai rink is better! www.hunice.hu

 4. Mazsola Játszóház Playhouse: This playhouse, right downtown on Arany János utca, is perfect for the little ones, from babies to 4 or 5 years. It’s cozy and (relatively) quiet, with puzzles and cars, a play kitchen and store, dolls and balls and best of all… wonderful coffee for moms and dads!

I held a Halloween party here once when my daughter was three, and have been to several birthday parties there. Very low-key and very accommodating. They have a native English-speaking teacher there once a week for a music class, so you could hire that person to run the party if you don’t want to do it yourself. Bring your own cake and goodies, and they provide the fun!

Ta ta for now, more tomorrow! If you’ve got a favorite spot for a party, let us know by commenting here or on the AdriKnows Facebook page. Happy Birthday to you, whenever yours may be!"
