Hungary's PM Orbán Sees Transaction Tax At 0.1%
"We are very far from making a decision on a transaction tax, but its size cannot be more than 0.1%,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told Kossuth Rádió on Friday.

He was referring to mooted plans to tax activity on bank accounts, imposing a fee on all deposits and withdrawals from banks and ATMs, as well as all bank transfers, wage payments and tax remittances.

Central bank data shows that the amount of transactions in the banking sector reaches Ft 100,000-110,000 billion every month.

According to experts, taxing transfers made between accounts held in the same bank would be difficult, as such transfers do not go through the inter-bank clearing system, Napi Gazdaság adds."
