We Remember The Victims Of The Holocaust In Hungary On 16 April
"On 16 April, Monday, victims of the Holocaust in Hungary are remembered throughout the country. It was on this day in 1944 that the setting up of the first ghettos began in the Trans-Carpathian region of Hungary.

In the months to follow, 13 larger ghettos and waggon stations were created in Trans-Carpathia and in North-East Hungary, from which 437 thousand Jews were taken away. The official commemorations of the Hungarian Government will be held in the Holocaust Memorial Centre in Budapest as well as in Szolnok and Tatabánya.

Commemorations in the capital will start on Sunday, 15 April. A memorial concert will be held outside the ten-year-old House of Terror Museum, following which the March of the Living Foundation will organise a commemorative walk on the Danube Bank to mark the Wallenberg centenary.

The Government will await at the Holocaust Memorial Centre those who wish to deposit candles and stones of remembrance in honour of the victims of the Holocaust in Hungary. In the countryside, commemorative events will be held in Szolnok and Tatabánya.

The Hungarian Government adopted a resolution on 3 November 2011 which declared 2012 the Wallenberg Year. A Commemorative Committee was set up to make the necessary preparations for the programmes of the Year. It is important that Hungary remember Raoul Wallenberg with the respect and admiration he deserves on the centenary of his birth. Website: http://wallenberg.hu/en.html
