Demonstration For Press Freedom In Budapest
The Independent Union of Television and Film Makers (TFSZ) and the NGO Clean Hands for a Democratic Hungary Movement staged a demonstration on Thursday afternoon to mark the International Day of Press Freedom.

They were joined by other protestors outside the Kunigunda út production base of the Media Services and Asset Management Fund (MTVA), forming a 150-strong crowd.

The demonstrators drove a convoy of cars to the First District building of the Media Council where TFSZ vice-president Balázs Navarro Nagy presented a petition in which the protestors complained that – despite their former petition – the Council had not substantively examined cases of news falsification, and urged further inquiries.

The convoy then drove to Magyar Rádió on Pollack Mihály tér where Nagy said in a speech that where press freedom is violated, freedom of opinion is also restricted, and where there is no real freedom of press, there is no real democracy either.

Socialist MP Zsolt Török and LMP MP Gergely Karácsony were among the participants.
