OTP Bank Head Csányi Loses HUF 20 Billion But Remains Wealthiest Hungarian
OTP Bank chairman and CEO Sándor Csányi is again Hungary’s richest person in 2012 with assets of Ft 135 billion, down from Ft 155 billion in 2011, according to Napi Gazdaság’s annual list of the 100 wealthiest Hungarians. Csányi topped the list in 2005, 2006, and again last year.

Runner-up and moving up one notch was Fotex chairman and CEO Gábor Várszegi with fortunes estimated at Ft 125 billion, up from Ft 120 billion a year ago.

About Ft 35 billion in value was wiped off real estate developer Sándor Demján’s wealth from 2011 to 2012, now totalling Ft 105 billion, placing him fourth on the list.

There were 12 newcomers this year. The fortune of Gattyán György, head of Dolcer Holding, an IT company, rose spectacularly from Ft 33 billion to Ft 98 billion, making him the 6th richest man in Hungary.

Editors noted that the list may be incomplete as it does not include businessmen such as Lajos Simicska and Zsolt Nyerges, with close political affiliations to the government.
