DJ Bootsie Akoustic Big Band Concert, Festival Theatre Budapest, 20 June
DJ Bootsie is an active mover and shaper on the Hungarian hip-hop scene. While the beat of urban hip-hop provides the framework for his music, he also draws greatly on Hungarian culture. His predominantly instrumental, epically structured music is greatly influenced by electronic music, jazz, contemporary and folk music with a strong emphasis on movie soundtracks.

Fans of the genre immediately took notice of his debut album on its European appearance, using his music in numerous contexts such as in the seventh episode of the Buddha Bar series, an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, in DJ Cam’s album of mixes and in the Mercedes Mix Tape.

His album Holidays in the Shade received excellent reviews worldwide and led to his music again being featured on the backing track of CSI. At concerts he performs his compositions with the DJ Bootsie Quartet, which adopts a hip-hop and jazz attitude, placing great emphasis on the record player as an instrument in its own right and not just as a tool which creates effects. For this occasion Bootsie has re-orchestrated his repertoire with the addition of eight musicians, replacing all the instruments – with the exception of his turntables – with acoustic ones.

This new approach creates music boasting a natural yet powerful sound, as interpreted by outstanding musicians. DJ Bootsie and his band play freely with hip-hop and contemporary music, further expanding on hidden elements of the material inspired by film and folk music. The experience is further enhanced with background projections by VJ Kemuri (Kristóf Somogyi).
