Hungarian Authority NMHH Backs Roma Documentary
The Media Council of the media authority NMHH has rejected complaints that a documentary on Roma aired on March 7 was discriminatory, the NMHH announced. The film “Gipsy Way” by director László Pesty generated protests from individuals and organisations after it was broadcast on state television channel M1.

They said although the film-makers interviewed Roma the documentary humiliated Roma and reinforce negative stereotypes.

A preliminary investigation did not find any violation of the media law, the NMHH said on its website.

The documentary was neither discriminatory, nor harmful to the Roma community and did not promote hatred against them, the NMHH found.

The media service manager MTVA cancelled a planned re-broadcast of the documentary.
