Foreign Companies Employ 25% In Hungary
Foreign-owned companies account for 3.3% of all businesses registered in Hungary but employ 25% of Hungary’s 1.6 million active employees, according to the labour office NMH. Data from May 2011 shows that 5.7% of employees worked at companies where foreign ownership exceeded 50%. Foreign-owned companies carried out nearly half of all investments in Hungary, to a total of Ft 1.5 trillion according to NMH data from 2009.

Three years ago 24.2% of employees worked for foreign-owned companies, excluding the subsidiaries of financial companies, Napi Gazdaság writes. However, that study used different methodology.

There were 184,000 foreign-owned companies registered in Hungary, 3.3% of the total, but their share of revenue accounted for 51.7% of the total.

Foreign-owned businesses employed 32 people on average, compared to 3 at Hungarian-owned companies.
