Invitation: Evening Concerts At Budapest Zoo
The Budapest Zoo will host a series of summer concerts, coming soon and running until 22 August. This is the 11th year in which the zoo has provided its amazing open-air backdrop to some of the most talented local musical groups including: Budapest Bár, Budapest Klezmer Band, Hot Jazz Band.

In addition to presenting a uniquely wide selection of various animals and plants, the Budapest Zoo strives to offer its visitors as diverse a programme of recreational events as possible. Taking a pleasant walk in the garden and seeing the its historic buildings may even beat a sightseeing tour in the city, and watching over 8,000 animals in a breathtakingly preserved natural environment is like watching a nature film – from the director’s seat!

It is only natural that our traditional commitment to the promotion of culture and public education also embraces the fine art of music. The Zoo hosted musical events even before WWII, featuring well-known artists of the day, such as Józsi Jenő Tersánszky, Tamás Major and Zoltán Gregus. Even the very first live broadcast on Hungarian Radio was of an event from the Budapest Zoo!

We revived this tradition of our ancestors over a decade ago: this year we are proud to present – in cooperation with Opel Hungary as our partner – the 11th season of “Evening Music in the Zoo”, our summer concert series held on the shore of the Grand Lake!

The concerts are refreshing and popular outdoor events in the Budapest summer. The setting for the events was designed by the very best: the Grand Lake and the surrounding trees in the sunset create a truly unique and remarkable background to the stage.

In 2011, over 4,000 visitors enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere of our summer evening concerts in the Zoo. Join us this year and listen, together with our peacocks, to the performances of jazz, world music, Dixieland and Klezmer musicians on the stage at the Pálmaház Promenade.

Next concert:

Budapest Klezmer Band - 22 August 2012, Wednesday (rain check for 23 August)

Budapest Klezmer Band

Every year, traditional Jewish music finds its way to the ears and hearts of the public. We expect nothing short of a blockbuster, as usual. Ferenc Jávor (Fegya), the band’s founder, has composed original songs, but the band plays musical transcripts just as well. These tunes come from a part of Central and Eastern Europe where Jewish music and culture used to blossom.
