Why the Event?

The AWCDH would like to increase and strengthen its national and international network so that we may better meet the conditions and expectations of an acknowledged NGO acting as a think tank with a role to play on the UN and EU level as well as in the international arena.

In the spirit of the EY 2012 Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations we feel that it is our responsibility to further the awareness of this urgent and wide-ranging issue by treating it with the utmost insight and sensitivity, and to bring it to the attention of the widest audiences possible.

Accordingly, the AWCDH, which has previously organised several events within frame of its “Women’s Career for a Lifetime” Project would now like to take this opportunity to invite our Distinguished Guests to an Indian Summer Gathering to establish a forum of knowledge transfer in a club atmosphere (maximum 50 guests) in order to better address the challenges of the older women and the cooperation between generations issues in a manner that will make a difference.

It is our pleasure to introduce to you our honorary guest, Mrs. Elizabeth Sclater from the UK, who is General Secretary of the Older Women’s Network, Europe and member of Age Platform Europe’s Social Inclusion Expert Group. Mrs. Sclater has been our great mentor and supporter in recent years. It is thanks to her that the AWCDH has been able to extend its network and enrich its expertise on women and older women issues on the European and UN levels.

You will meet our other distinguished participants as well who will contribute to the success of our event, but the floor will be open to all guests who will honour us by sharing their thoughts and insights with us.

Refreshments will be served during the event.

The European Year Of Active Ageing And Solidarity Between Generations 2012

2012 is the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. A chance for all of us to reflect on how Europeans are living longer and staying healthier than ever before — and to realize the opportunities that represents.

Active ageing can give the baby-boom generation and tomorrow's older adults the opportunity to:
- remain in the workforce and share their experience
- keep playing an active role in society
- live as healthy and fulfilling lives as possible.

Active ageing is also the key to maintaining solidarity between generations in societies with rapidly increasing numbers of older people.

The challenge for politicians and stakeholders will be to improve opportunities for active ageing, for living independently, and to concentrate on areas as diverse as employment, health care, social services, adult learning, volunteering, housing, IT services, and transport.

The European Year seeks to raise awareness of the issues and the best ways of dealing with them. But most of all, it seeks to encourage all policymakers and stakeholders to set themselves goals and take action to meet them. 2012 should go beyond debating; it should start bringing tangible results.

The “Women’s Career for s Lifetime” Project of the AWCDH

Our aim: to raise awareness of the need to support participation of women above 50 in the labour market and to the importance of their role in their families as well, because these women, popularly called the “sandwich generation”, must continue to care for their children on the one hand, and their parents and grandparents on the other.

We have so far organized the following programs in the frame of the “Women’s Career for a Lifetime” Project:

„Women’s Careers for a “Health, Beauty, Security” international conference in honour of the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012 held on 28 June 2012 in the Rubin Wellness & Conference Hotel, Budapest;

„Women’s Careers for a Lifetime”, a joint conference of the AWCDH and the Figyelő (Observer- Business weekly) as well as the Családi Lap (Family Magazine) in honor of the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012, held on 28 March, 2012 in the Budapest Hilton Castle Hill;

Presentation of Mrs. Andrea Ferenczi at the Gerontological Days in Nyiregyháza at the International Conference entitled
„The Art of Ageing;

“Women’s Careers above 40 and 50” International Conference held on 20 November, 2010 in the Gerbeaud House, Budapest;

“Women’s Career for a Lifetime” International Conference held on 21 May, 2009 in the Hungarian Parliament.
