Ft 3bn Subsidy To Budapest; New Trams
Over Ft 3 billion in a special subsidy will be paid from this year's budget to the Budapest city council to help smooth the operation of public transport, the latest issue of Magyar Kozlony reported on Wednesday.

The Ft 3.3 billion sum is a one-off subsidy which the cabinet is re-assigning at the expense of this year's budget.

Mayor Istvan Tarlos, Development Ministry infrastructure state secretary Pal Volner and the Budapest Public Transport Centre (BKK) managing director signed a subsidy contract on Wednesday for the first stage of a trolleybus and tram procurement investment project for the capital.

Budapest will provide Ft 250 million from its own resources to the project and will receive a Ft 43 billion subsidy.

Budapest has arrived at a new chapter, Tarlos said. Thanks to the project new low-floor vehicles will enter into service on tram lines No. 1, 3, 19 and 61, and the trolleybus network will be renewed from 2014.
