Getronics Granted New Extension To Sign Contract For Road Toll System In Hungary
The Development Ministry has given Getronics, winner of the electronic road toll system tender, an extra 30 days to sign the contract with state motorway manager AAK, state secretary Vilmos Valyi-Nagy announced last week.

The deadline for signing the contract was Monday, but the company requested and was granted a 30-day extension, citing talks with subcontractors.

Getronics nevertheless agreed to install the e-toll system on 6,800km of motorway by the July 1 deadline at a cost of Ft 35 billion.

There has not been any development that would impede the process, Valyi-Nagy added.

No runner-up was declared in the tender, Valyi-Nagy told Napi Gazdasag, as the only other valid bid, from T-Systems, was too high.

This means that if Getronics withdraws or the deal collapses, the government can not enter into an agreement with T-Systems, which made the second lowest offer of Ft 53.5 billion, he added.

The government initially planned to launch the e-road toll scheme from January, expecting to collect Ft 150 billion annually.

Failure to sign the agreement with Getronics next month would either lead to a new tender or the ministry having to raise motorway sticker prices for trucks to make up for the loss of the anticipated Ft 75 billion of revenue, Napi Gazdasag writes.
