Invitation: Duna Symphonic Orchestra & Tommy Vig, Budapest, 22 March
The repertoire of the Duna Symphonic Orchestra encompasses some of the European musical history’s eras, starting from the baroque music to the 21st century’s contemporary compositions. Besides musicial compositions representing classical values, the Orchestra pays special attention to presenting 21st century Hungarian contemporary compositions, when compiling its self-organized season ticket series. Furthermore it considers the introduction of young domestic and internationally acknowledged entrants a prominent task.

Tommy Vig was born in 1938, in Budapest. Already at the age of 8, he performed at The Budapest Circus, as a wonder drummer. At the age of 18, after the 18th of November, 1956 he settled down in the United States, where he became well-known as a jazz-vibraphonist, composer, orchestrator, big band leader and a studio musician.

Among others he worked with musicians such as Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Henry Mancini, Stan Kenton, Quincy Jones, Sammy Davis, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett, Terry Gibbs…

He wrote soundtracks for the most famous studios and played in the bands of world famous musicians. He has led his own big band for 40 years and in Hollywood 1400 studio recordings preserve his art. He has been playing jazz for more than 60 years. In 2001 he was awarded the Jazz Oscar prize.

Besides these, Tommy has written several books as an inventor and he also had a taste in fine arts… He returned to Hungary in 2006, where he has been an active part of the domestic musicial life since.
