Invitation: Lenten Evensong...Budapest, 23 March
Evening Prayer, or Evensong as it is generally called when sung, is one of the Church’s “Offices,” or official prayers. It derives from the Vespers and Compline of medieval monasteries when monks or nuns would gather to bid a prayerful farewell to the day just past and prepare for a night’s rest.

Date and time: Saturday evening, March 23, at 5.30pm

Evensong today remains a beautiful service of prayer, scripture, and music – still a restful way to end a day. Our Evensong this season marks the middle of our solemn Lenten season, helping us prepare for the Resurrection of our Lord at Easter.

Join together with parishioners and friends of Saint Margaret’s Anglican Episcopal Church and of Saint Columba’s Scottish Presbyterian Church for this service of Lenten Evensong. Our music will be provided by members of the noted Gabrieli Choir of Budapest under the direction of Richárd Sólyom. The Gabrieli Choir specialises in the Anglican tradition of choral music.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to bring friends and neighbours and to introduce them to this wonderful and seasonal worship. It is also an excellent way to introduce children and young people to ancient spiritual traditions.

By the way, there is no sermon at Evensong -- and no Offertory collection – although there will likely be opportunity to make a donation to cover expenses. The service lasts approximately one hour. There are restaurants and cafés in the neighbourhood, should anyone seek refreshment after the service. See below for Directions.
