Timothy W. Manning, Deputy Administrator for protection and national preparedness, Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S Department of Homeland Security, and Carole Cameron, director, international affairs, were in Hungary May 13 and 14 to meet their Hungarian counterparts at the National Directorate General for Disaster Management (NDGDM).

During the visit the Americans met Minister of Interior, Dr. Sándor Pintér, and LTG György Bakondi, Director General of NDGDM. The Americans also visited the Industrial Safety Situation Center at NDGDM and saw a demonstration of Hungary’s search and rescue team at the Ferencvaros football stadium, now being demolished. Hungary’s Medium Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) is one of only 13 worldwide to receive the UN’s INSARAG certification needed for deployment across the globe.
