Surface Reinstatement Of Fővám tér & Kálvin Tér In Budapest Complete
The surface reinstatement of the Fővám tér and Kálvin tér related to the M4 Project has been completed. Following technical handover, both squares in their entirety – except the metro exits – are returned to pedestrians. The completion of the works, the road building and the construction of the catenary, has made it possible for the no. 83 trolley to run along its original route.

The refurbishing of the square completed, as of Saturday 1 June 2013, after the temporary diversion, the no. 83 trolley will resume to run along its original route: coming from Közraktár utca, it will cross the renewed Fővám tér, go along Vámház körút and through Kálvin tér to wind its way to Baross utca towards Orczy tér.

At Fővám tér, the trolley stops in the bus stop of the nos. 15 and 125 buses on Vámház körút. No other stop of the trolley route changes and the schedule of the no. 83 trolley can be found at www.bkk.hu. At Fővám tér, only the trolleys are permitted to drive on to the stone pavement in front of the university; cars can use it only with special authorization.

The reconstruction of the entire Kiskörút road surface and the environment of the metro stations at Fővám tér and Kálvin tér was an important element of the M4 Project. While works were still going on, the renewed section between Astoria and Szabadság híd of the nos. 47 and 49 trams, the subway, the underground section of the no. 2 tram and the M4 subway at Fővám tér were handed over to the public in 2009, while the Kiskörút was reopened in 2010.

The contractors return the surface areas to the Budapest public gradually, but this time, with the completion of surface reinstatement, the two squares are fully opened to pedestrians.

In the framework of the M4 Project, the renewed pavement was fitted out with new benches and pedestrian areas at Fővám tér, and a sizeable green area was created between the quay and the university building. In the vicinity of the Kálvin tér station, apart from the section between Baross utca and Üllői út handed over earlier, the sections of the square in front of the Reformed Church up to Üllő út and the entry area to Ráday utca are again open to public, which have been furbished with new street furniture, green areas and artworks.

Above the tram tunnel, the stone-clad walkway facing the Danube and fitted out with comfortable benches, providing a superb panorama of the Buda side and Gellért Hill, has already become part and parcel of the teeming university life.
