The Best Ice Cream In Hungary Officially Is...
Summer 2013 may not be too hot yet but it's starting out deliciously with an award winning raspberry ice cream flavoured with a little red wine essence. Staying true to traditions, for the 16th time now the Hungarian National Ice-Cream & Cake Of The Year Competition was held in Szent Korona Patisserie in Soltvadkert. As for the announcement of the cake of the year, we still have to wait until August, however the winner in the “cold sweets” category already received his reward last weekend. Read on for more about him and his cool creations.

“The aim of the competition is to promote the traditional high quality and handcrafted Hungarian ice cream” said the spokesman of the National Bakery Association.

The champion creamy raspberry delight, with its unique red wine essence, belongs to Balázs Daminczki: a famous confectioner from Székesfehérvár. Managing director of the Hungarian Confectioner Industry László Selmeczi said, the competition was very tough and to choose from the 58 ice cream miracles was challenging both for the jury and the audience.

The other two medalists were a lemon liqueur yoghurt ice cream spiced up with almonds, and a fancy named 'Summer Fresh', a combination of pink grapefruit and Aperol sorbet.
