MFB Sacks Hungary's Motorway Manager Heads
CEO Attila Bakó of state motorway manager ÁAK and chief operating officer Róbert Horváth have been fired as of Friday, Index reports. Their dismissals are linked to the problems with the launch of the electronic road toll system, introduced from July 1, Index claims. The MFB denied this.

The launch of the system was delayed due to a failed tender. When it eventually began operations on July 1 without a trial run, the system crashed repeatedly.

However, Népszabadság attributes the sackings to the slow response by the company during the March 15 blizzard, which paralysed the country and left thousands of motorists stranded on roads for 36-48 hours in some cases.

Neither Bakó nor Horváth could be reached for long periods on that day, as they were outside of Hungary.
