Baja Video Was Staged, Hungarian Police Confirm
Police yesterday dismissed the trustworthiness of the leaked recording suggesting that Fidesz committed electoral fraud at the recent Baja local by-election. The mobile phone footage was shot on October 15, after the by-election, and was completely staged, they explained.

Bács county deputy police chief Vendel Szabó told Inforádió that police had launched an inquiry after Socialist MP Tamás Harangozó had informed them of the video.

He said the six people who were on the recording have been questioned.

News website hvg.hu has apologised for posting the recording.

Socialist spokesman Zsolt Török said the video recording had been handed over to party sports section deputy chairman György Király, who then passed it on to lawyers on whose advice a report was filed.

Interior Ministry state secretary Károly Kontrát stressed before regular business in Parliament that police are doing their best to accurately uncover the details of the case.
