Hungary's Gov’t Plan Airport Passenger Database
Interior Ministry state secretary Károly Kontrát argued in favour of collating the names of airport passengers in Parliament yesterday. Under proposed legislation, airlines would collect flight passenger information for a national database. “Hungary would be more secure with the proposed system,” Kontrát said.

Kontrát argued that the travelling habits of terrorists and gang members follow particular patterns and comparing them with other passengers could provide useful data, adding that “a number of EU and third world countries apply this system, or are planning to apply it”.

The establishment of the database would form part of a bill on air transport and would receive some five million euros in EU funding.
