Invitation: Compagnie Pál Frenák: X&Y, Trafó Budapest, 2 Nov
Adam and Eve, X and Y chromosomes. A lover affair of genetic codes and relationship mutations in the laboratory of beating hearts.

The new piece by Pál Frenák deals with the questions of balance and disbalance within a relationship between men and women in a dynamically changing futuristic space. The set is an asymmetric, white net, a triangle rope-system, which looks like a contemporary art installation. It has an active part of the show, always moving, throbbing; reacting to the movements of the dancers. And in the net there is the man: the man and the woman, full of questions and doubts. Because a human being looking for answers is like a spider spinning its web, creating the world around itself from its own essence and places itself in its selfmade universe.

How do we experience the everyday moments of a relationship, what desires, emotions and hopes did the first couple have? How could we connect to each other, how can we coordinate the minimal structure of a twosome universe? How can we help each other to live and survive? Being lonely and being together, being honest and instinctive like an animal, being a robot-like creature or being free… x&y is about creating the word around us, controlling it and watching it with deep attention and a little bit of irony.
The performance is also special as this time the 56-year-old choreographer Pál Frenák steps on stage as a performer with a fantastic solo connected to the duo of his two young and talented dancers, Peter Holoda and Marie-Julie Debeaulieu.

The award-winning choreographer-dancer Pál Frenák founded his French company in 1989 in Paris and established his Hungarian-French ensemble in 1999, based in Budapest and Paris at the same time. One of its most important characteristics is the use of mimics, sign language and body movements that reflect on various genres of contemporary circus, fashion, theatre and music. The company always combines the powerful choreographical structure with a pure but special, and extraordinary scenery– inspired by contemporary architecture and design – which has a strong influence on the movement material.
