Hungary's Ruling Party Fidesz Uses Rate Cuts To Start Recruitment Drive
Fidesz is sending a letter to the 2.2 million people who signed its petition in favour of lower utility prices last year, asking them to take part in the party’s election campaign. In the letter, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán calls on the addressee to join a “Hungarian Team” soon to be created to protect the government-imposed cuts in household gas and electricity prices, saying these are under threat from outside forces.

The letter adds that the party will soon be holding forums “near your residence” at which recipients will be able to join the Hungarian Team.

Communications director Máté Kocsis told reporters on Saturday that the party will arrange 119 local forums for over 30 politicians across Hungary from the middle of January.

Unidentified Fidesz sources told Magyar Hírlap at the weekend that the left wing and the radical opposition do not know how to respond to the utility rate cuts, as they cannot attack them, as they are price cuts.
