Invitation: Recirquel - Night Circus, Festival Theatre Budapest, 18 Feb
The contemporary circus series that began this year at the Palace of Arts continues with a very special production. The brand new performance, which is bringing together a team of the most talented young acrobats in Hungary, is evocatively titled Night Circus and it premiered at the Palace of Arts in April, 2013 at the 33rd annual Budapest Spring Festival.

Director Bence Vági, a graduate in choreography and directing from the world-renowned Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, was attracted from an early age to the unmistakeable atmosphere of the world of cabaret, variety and circus, and continues to draw the greatest inspiration from these genres in his work as a director. From the very start, the concept of this new production was formed in collaboration with his creative partners.

Responsible for the evening’s visual side is stage designer Judit Csanádi, a winner of numerous awards both at home and abroad, who on this occasion has found the key to the look of the production in the slowly crumbling firewalls of the Hungarian capital.

The costumes for Recirquel have been dreamt up by Emese Kasza, one of the most exciting figures among the young generation of Hungarian fashion designers, whose extravagant garments are already known and appreciated in London and Berlin. The musical accompaniment, which promises to be at least as striking and draws on a wide variety of styles, is composed – and will be partly performed live – by Péter Sárik, already a very familiar name on the international jazz scene.

The circus performers will be assisted by noted creative artists in telling a story that contains both fairytale and mythical elements. In this tale, the troupe’s artistes are on the trail of a vanished circus, a shared journey on which they get to know hidden aspects of their own personalities. This night at the circus guarantees passion and explosiveness, secrets and sensuality.
