Entrepreneur Dies In Police Car In Budapest
Tamás Welsz, the businessman who provided false Guinea-Bissau passports to disgraced former Socialist vice president Gábor Simon and others, died yesterday in a police car. The cause of death has not been established, but police officers in the car say that Welsz was gasping for air, and was visibly feeling ill, although he did not say anything.

He was rushed to an ambulance station in Buda, but doctors said they were unable to revive him.

Magyar Nemzet said Welsz had recently indicated to the National Bureau of Investigation that he wanted to pass on incriminating documents to the police.

Detectives went to his office on Logodi utca in the First District then drove him by car to a location in Érd and another in Buda, to collect the evidence. It was then that Welsz fell ill and was taken to an ambulance station on Alkotás utca in the 12th District.

Welsz was 41 years old. He had reportedly been in poor health since the Simon case erupted. He had personal problems, as his girlfriend broke up with him, and he had financial difficulties.
