Attacker Of Vojvodina Leader In Preliminary Detention In Budapest
A woman who assaulted István Pásztor, head of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, outside parliament in Budapest early this month has been placed in preliminary detention, daily Magyar Nemzet reports.

Citing information from commercial news channel Hír TV, the paper noted that the attacker, 41, had participated in a demonstration organised by former radical nationalist Jobbik lawmaker Tamás Gaudi-Nagy against the land law.

Pásztor had been a guest at the opening session of the new parliament and he was passing through the square when some of the demonstrators attacked him.

The woman spat on him. After the incident, the court initially decided that she should defend herself outside detention but the prosecutor appealed against this.

“The appeal’s court found the prosecutor’s appeal well - founded and ordered the suspect ’s preliminary detention in line with the original motion...,” the prosecution spokesperson said.
