Moscow Classical Ballet: Margaret Island Budapest, 27 June
Stravinsky wrote three works, which established his international reputation that were commissioned by impresario Diaghilev who was working in exile in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century. The Russian Ballet premiered Nijinsky’s choreography of The Rite of Spring in 1913, which caused a huge scandal.

Although the audience booed the performance, it is still considered the birth of modern ballet, fundamentally altering the rhythmic structure of the music and dance. The vision about ancient Russian pagan rituals enchants viewers to this day.

The Firebird, presented in 1910 with Mikhail Fokin’s choreography is one of the most popular and most often played ballet compositions, which influenced the work of a number of composers from the beginning. The work uses classic elements of European and Russian folk tales and folk music motifs and is about the eternal conflict between good and evil.

The performance of the two traditional masterpieces by The Moscow Classical Ballet to promote Hungarian-Russian cultural relations can be seen at the Margaret Island Open-air Stage. The company is in excellent condition and will perform for the first time at the Budapest Summer Festival. The authentic choreography by two previous stars of the great Russian ballet school, the Bolshoi, Natalia Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilyov incorporates folk dance elements and has traveled around the world in past decades.
