Hungary's Gyor Airport Gets Ft 6.6bn Upgrade
The commercial airport in Pér, 15km from Gyor, has opened after a Ft 6.6 billion investment to make it accessible to such large aircraft as Boeing 737s and Airbus 320s. The runway was enlarged and widened to 2,030 metres from 1,450 and other features were revamped.

Talks with discount airline Wizz Air are ongoing on the possible launch of flights to West European destinations, state secretary Péter Szijjártó told reporters. The government has said it will provide all possible support to boost passenger traffic.

Car maker Audi and the city of Gyor worked hand-in-hand on the project, mayor Zsolt Borkai noted.

Audi has a 48% share in the company that operates the airport, co-owned by the town of Gyor and the state.
