Hungarians In Ukraine Concerned About Call-Up
The Hungarian Democratic Federation of Ukraine (UMDSZ) has voiced concern over partial army mobilisation and urged efforts for a peaceful resolution of the situation in Ukraine. UMDSZ in a statement called on Ukrainian authorities to draft employees of law-enforcement bodies and only recruit others on a voluntary basis.

The foreign ministry said that it was paying heightened attention to reports concerning mobilisation which may instil fear and worry in areas of western Ukraine populated by ethnic minorities.

Via its foreign missions in Ukraine, the ministry is keeping in constant contact with the country’s central and local administrations, as well as with representatives of churches and civil groups in Transcarpathia, it said, noting that the Ukrainian authorities had not discriminated on ethnic grounds when calling up reservists.

The county is striving to ensure that reserves from Transcarpathia serve in local defence. The authorities intend to mobilise exservicemen and reservists with military training, and they want to mobilise a restricted number, it added.

The ministry said that in the current tense climate it is especially important that briefings about the situation in Ukraine should be factual, balanced and precise. Ukraine’s parliament approved a decree on July 22 on a new military mobilisation.
