Hungarian Gov’t To Suspend NGOs’ Tax Numbers
The government accountability office KEHI will ask the authority to suspend the tax numbers of all four members of the consortium that distributes funds from the Norway Grant programme, it was announced yesterday.

The KEHI said the NGOs had refused to hand over all requested data, in violation of legal regulations.

The tax authority said it will start the process of suspending the tax numbers, if the so requests.

Once its tax number is revoked, an organisation is not entitled to collect tax refunds or financial aid.

The Ökotárs Foundation said yesterday that the money goes through a Brussels organisation directly to the recipients, not via the four NGOs under scrutiny.
