Visit Of Irish Pilgrims In Hungary
Ambassador Dowling met a group of Irish visitors to religious sites in Hungary recently on 9th September. The group of 47 took part in a ten day tour organized by Mr Tamás Kiss, director of the Győr Bishop’s Library and Treasury. Did you know: The great treasure of the Cathedral of Győr is the devotional picture of the Holy Virgin Mother Mary that shed tears of blood throughout a three hour period in the year 1697, on March 17th.

The picture of the Holy Virgin Mother Mary originally belonged to Bishop Walter Lynch who escaped from the 17th century attacks in Ireland upon the Chatolics.

In Hungary Mr Kiss has enhanced cultural and religious links between Győr and Ireland over a number of years. The Irish group met Bishop Papai in Győr, visited the Benedictine Abbey in Pannonhalma, and the Cathedral in Esztergom . They spent also 4 days in the Hungarian capital and travelled in the country.
