Women Plan Protest Outside Class FM In Budapest On Sunday
The Association for Women and nearly ten NGOs are organising the demonstration outside Class FM at 3 p.m. on Sunday to protest the trivialisation of rape on the radio station. The Budapest chapter of the Christian Democrats said it fully supports the protest outside Class FM’s Üllői út headquarters Sunday afternoon, declaring it unacceptable that staff had been joking about a recent rape case.

Class FM issued an apology yesterday. “We condemn rape, we had no intention of mocking this regrettable and inexplicable act, and if any of our sentences, words or gestures was insulting or offensive, we apologise,” the station said in a statement.

The woman was raped by a 38-year-old employee at a camp for first-year students of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) last Friday.

Class FM will launch a month-long campaign on the issue of rape, which it hopes will help prevent such attacks in future.
