Budapest Mayor István Tarlós Receives Award In Vienna
Budapest Mayor István Tarlós received the main award of the Vienna European Academy at a ceremony in Vienna on Thursday. Tarlós was granted the honour in recognition of his work done to develop the Hungarian capital. Through his efforts Tarlós has contributed to making Budapest a more liveable and competitive European city while preserving its one-time greatness, according to the justification of the award.

Commending Tarlós for his achievements, Werner Fasslabend, former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives of the Austrian parliament, said it was unnecessary to study the various statistics or surveys; it was enough to walk around Budapest with open eyes to immediately notice the city’s development.

Accepting the award, Tarlós said it was important to preserve the city’s cultural values and its identity while harmonising these with European values.
