Theatres’ Popularity Unchanged In Hungary Since Transition To Democracy
Some 5 to 5.5 million theatre tickets are being sold annually in Hungary which demonstrates that theatre has been the art form that lost the least of its popularity since this country’s transition to democracy, the head of the alliance of theatre companies Magyar Teátrumi Társaság said in Kecskemét, in central Hungary, on Monday.

Attila Vidnyánszky, who is also the director of the National Theatre, said that almost as many Hungarians go to theatre these days as 25 years ago.

Hungarians are among the most enthusiastic theatre-goers, with tickets sales growing especially in the past 2-3 years, he said.
