Hungarian Government: ”No Evidence” For US Entry Ban
The government has not received any document containing evidence to underpin the US entry ban and graft allegations, spokesman Zoltán Kovács said, responding to a question about an interview given to weekly Heti Válasz by André Goodfriend, the US chargé d’affaires.

If someone makes an accusation, they should provide supporting evidence, he said. “The scrap of paper is nothing more than a scrap of paper and it contains no evidence,” Kovács said, referring to a document that the embassy had passed on to a government employee concerning alleged corruption.

Fraud within the Hungarian tax authority has not been investigated, Goodfriend told the weekly, adding that the US had documented evidence of fraudulent activity within the tax authority and had shared this with the Hungarian government.

The entry ban affecting six officials was not just because they had done “too little” against corruption, he told Heti Válasz.

Ildikó Vida, the head of Hungary’s tax office (NAV), has said she expects an explanation from the US embassy concerning remarks by its chargé d’affaires suggesting that she was involved in corruption.
