Hungary’s President Áder Returns Two Laws To Parliament
President János Áder returned the laws on the protection of the built environment and on trade to parliament for reconsideration. Both laws were approved by parliament on December 9.

The new law on the protection of the built environment regulates the construction of shopping malls while the law on trade bans from 2018 the sale of daily consumer goods in large shops that fail to make a profit in two consecutive years.

Ruling Fidesz continues to support Hungary’s ban on new shopping centres. Group leader Antal Rogán said that his party’s deputies would consider the president’s objections, but added that Fidesz “would not want that the construction of shopping malls to resume after January 1”.
