Sunday Shopping Referendum Bid Filed In Hungary
Former mayor of Monok Zsolt Szepessy, head of the Unity party, filed four referendum questions to the National Election Board (NVB) over government plans to force shops to close on Sundays.

Szepessy’s questions ask citizens whether all shops must be closed on Sunday, or all shops must be open. In addition, he would like to ask whether all multinational shops must be closed or open on Sundays.

As the NVB has 30 days to rule on the suitability of the questions, other groups such as employers association VOSZ and the Democratic Coalition have to wait with their own questions on the same issue, legal experts told Népszabadság.

Szepessy’s action will set their own plans back by at least a month, the newspaper adds.
