Szijjártó: New Hungarian Foreign Policy Needed
Hungary needs a new foreign policy to respond to new global challenges, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó told parliament’s foreign affairs committee. This new policy is pragmatic, represents economic interests and focuses both on transatlantic and eastern relations to an equal degree.

It seeks to represent Hungarian national interests as well as key geopolitical interests such as peace, energy security and commercial goals, he said.

Energy security is of utmost importance in Central Europe and requires diversification.

So far the South Stream project seemed best to handle this need, and it is “bad news for Hungary that the pipeline will not be built,” he said.
