Hungary’s Education Participation Rate Rises
The number of graduates has risen eight-fold in Hungary since 1960, Magyar Nemzet daily said on Wednesday, noting however that 12% today lack a school qualification.

Quoting data of a 2011 census by the Central Statistical Office, the paper said that the educational attainment rate in the country was continually improving and the proportion of people learning a foreign language had also risen.

Whereas every third resident of Budapest has a degree, in the lowest achieving regions, Nógrád county in northern Hungary and Szabolcs- Szatmár-Bereg county in north-east Hungary, a third of residents has only got as far as eighth grade.

According to the latest data, altogether 15.5% of people across the country have a degree, and there are huge disparities between its various regions.

In the past decade, however, the proportion of those who do not possess school qualifications has dropped in every social group.
