Number Of Hungarian Tourists In Croatia Hits Eight-Year Record
Some 397 000 Hungarians spent more than 2.15 million guest nights in neighbouring Croatia in 2014, the highest numbers in eight years and an increase of 10% from 2013, the Budapest head of the Croatian Tourism Community, Marin Skenderovic, told the Hungarian news agency MTI.

With these figures, Hungary was responsible for the third largest increase among the ten major foreign countries whose tourists go to Croatia, both in terms of the number of tourists and guest nights they spent in the country, Mr. Skenderovic added.

Taking 1995 as a reference year, the largest number of Hungarian tourists visiting Croatia was 453,000, recorded in 2005, Mr. Skenderovic said, adding that Hungarians spent 2.4 million guest nights in the country that year.

Last year’s Hungarian record is also interesting in international comparison because Hungarians showed the highest increase in terms of both the number of guests and guest nights from the ten top countries of origin of tourists travelling to Croatia.

He added that a total of 13 614 000 tourists were registered in the Adriatic country in 2014, which represents a 4.9 per cent increase compared to the previous year. Of this, foreigners amounted to 12 111 000, 5.3 per cent more than in 2013. The total number of guest nights spent in the country increased by 2.1 per cent to 74 726 000, of which 67 694 000 nights were spent by guests from abroad.

Mr. Skenderovic said that the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is holding its 100th, jubilee sitting in Rovinj, Croatia this year in recognition of the country’s continuously expanding tourism industry.
