Paks Data To Be Secret In Hungary For 30 Years
Parliament’s legislative committee on Friday approved a proposal to deny public access for 30 years to some contracts on the expansion of the Paks nuclear power plant enlargement, citing national security concerns.

Energy state secretary András Aradszky said the restrictions apply only to business and technical data whose release would present a security risk or violate laws on intellectual property.

The decision, to be approved by Parliament, affects technical data figuring in contracts between Hungarian-designated organisations and sub-contractors, as well as feasibility agreements and data laying the foundations for the investment project.

Fidesz spokesman Bence Tuzson said classification of technical data is justified because of the threat of terrorism.

Socialist deputy caucus leader Bertalan Tóth retorted that there may be a legitimate security concern regarding technical data, but there can be none regarding business data.

Dialogue MEP Benedek Jávor argued that there is nothing to fear from releasing fair contracts to the public.
