Palace In Rural Hungary Goes On Sale For The Price Of A Small Apartment
A nobleman’s palace in rural Hungary, built in the early 1900s, has gone on sale for HUF 20 million, the price of a small Budapest apartment, the tabloid newspaper Bors has reported. The Perczel Palace, at the village of Rózsafa near Szigetvár in Baranya County, has a floor area of 589 square metres. Its surroundings – the former palace park – are spread out over around 29 000 square metres.

The palace, built by Tibor Perczel over a century ago, is currently in ruins despite being classified as a protected archictectural landmark.

It was purchased by its present owner in 1993 but fell into ruin after it failed to gain state support for its development or to provide for its security. Doors, windows and wooden pillars were used by locals as firewood and solid surfaces were broken up. Currently, the building has a leaking roof and there is no heating or running water.

The 14-room palace, which has thermal springs in its surroundings, has been on the market for over a year. Russian and Italian would-be buyers have already signalled their interest in the crumbling building.
