Hungarian Sailing Association To Organise 170 Competitions This Year
The Hungarian Sailing Association (MVSZ) is to organise close to 170 competitions this year, with the traditional season-opening race on Lake Balaton to be held on 16 May at the town of Balatonfüred on the northern shore, the Association said at its first press conference of the year. The largest Hungarian race, named Kékszalag or “Blue Ribbon”, will be launched for the 47th time on 2 July.

At the press conference, chairman Lajos Kollár recalled that the Association’s new leadership has managed to stabilise the budget and clear its debt, having taken over in May 2013 amid dire economic circumstances.

“Our sportsmen have paid gratitude to support from the Hungarian Olympic Committee and sponsors with good results and we have every hope that the sequence of successes will continue”, he said.

The period behind us is among the most successful of the previous years, with one Hungarian sailor, Zsombor Berencz, already qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

At the press conference, the Association also announced a new youth training programme; the introduction of a recognition system for sailing schools acknowledged by MVSZ is expected to provide substantial help to children making their first steps towards becoming sailors.
