Budapest Mayor Promises “Spectacular” Makeover From EU Funding
Budapest is slated for some new spectacular developments financed from European Union funding by 2020, Mayor István Tarlós said. The city is set to complete significant tourism and public utilities projects from EU funds, Tarlós told public news channel M1.

The mayor said planned developments included the extension of tram line 1, the completion of a tram service linking Újpalota in northeast Budapest with Baross Square, the revamp of metro line 3, the revamp of the Budapest Zoo and the construction of a new waste management facility.

Tarlós said Budapest has only to gain from hosting the 2024 Olympics, adding that by 2020, the city could see a number of transport and infrastructure developments necessary for hosting the games.
