Hungarian Anita Márton Wins Female Event In Tokyo
Hungarian contestant Anita Márton came first in the female shot put event at an athletics competition held in the Japanese capital Tokyo on Sunday. Ms. Márton, who is female indoor European Champion in the event, won with an extraordinary, 18.94 metre throw, beating American Brittany Smith by 33 centimetres.

It is the second best open-air result in the 28-year-old Hungarian athlete’s career, her record being a 19.04 metre throw at last year’s European Championships in Zurich, a performance which also made for a European record and gained her a bronze medal.

With a 19.23 metre throw, Ms. Márton also holds the national record for indoor shot put, established in March 2015 in Prague.

Ms. Márton, who competes for the Békéscsabai AC athletics club, was named Hungarian Athlete of the Year in 2014.
