Hungary's MOL Welcomes Croatian Court Ruling
MOL yesterday welcomed the Croatian Constitutional Court’s decision to order a new trial of Ivo Sanader, the former prime minister accused of taking a bribe from MOL. MOL stressed in its statement that it has never been part of the Sanader case. Lower courts convicted Sanader of taking a €10 million bribe from MOL in 2008 in order to allow the Hungarian company to gain a 49% stake and management control over Croatian energy company INA.

MOL and Sanader have consistently denied the charges. Sanader was also convicted of accepting bribes from Austria’s Hypo Bank in the 1990s.

The Constitutional Court annulled the convictions on procedural grounds on Friday.

The court ruling confirms what the Croatian government has continuously stressed, namely that there is no conspiracy in Croatia against MOL, Croatian Economy Minister Ivan Vrdoljak said yesterday.
