Intense Storm In Budapest Causes Heavy Damage
Disaster Control offices received 1,600 reports of damage in Budapest and another 3,000 elsewhere in the wake of the storm that swept across Hungary yesterday. A house collapsed in Budapest, leaving injured people trapped under the rubble. Several trolleybuses and trams did not run as their overhead cables were damaged in the storm.

Train traffic on the Budapest-Miskolc line was stopped by a power cut.

In and around Budapest, shuttle buses ran on the entire lengths of the Csepel and Ráckeve suburban HÉV lines and a section of the Gödöllõ line.

Trees were felled by the storm, roofs were damaged and fire-fighters had to pump water out of basements.

In addition, leaning electricity poles are endangering traffic in several places.
